Barry Hughes, Professor

Dr. Hughes earned a B.S. in Mathematics from Stanford in 1967 and his Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of Minnesota in 1970. He taught at Case Western Reserve University, 1970-1980. He is now Professor at the Graduate School of International Studies, University of Denver, and he served the university as Vice Provost for Graduate Studies from 1992-2001. His principal research interests are in the areas of (1) world politics, (2) computer simulation models for economic, energy, food, population, environmental, and socio-political forecasting, (3) policy analysis, and (4) global futures. The fundamental concern that synthesizes these various interests is in developing effective response to long-term global change. He has developed a computer simulation called International Futures (IFs) for study of long-term issues by students and policy makers. For more information see http://www.du.edu/~bhughes/.

Dr. Hughes has consulted for the governments of Germany, Iran, Egypt, the U.S, and the European Union. He has taught courses in Costa Rica and China. He has written The Domestic Context of American Foreign Policy (Freeman 1978), World Modeling (Lexington 1980), World Futures (Johns Hopkins 1985), Disarmament and Development (Prentice-Hall 1990), Continuity and Change in World Politics (Prentice-Hall 1991, 1994, 1997, 2000), and International Futures (Westview 1993, 1996, 1999), as well as numerous articles.

Esa Stenberg is professor of international business and director of the Pan-European Institute at the Turku School of Economics and Business Administration. Stenberg has published 17 scientific publications on international business and trade and several articles in newspapers on European integration and on the Northern Dimension of the EU.

 

Paavo Okko, Professor

Paavo Okko is professor of economics and vice-rector of the Turku School of Economics and Business Adminisration. He is also a member of The Research Council of Cultural and Social Science Research of The Academy of Finland. Okko has been working with questions of regional economics, industrial economics, and economic growth. Especially endogenous economic growth has been recently within the focus of his work. European integration and globalization belong to his research topics, too.

 

Paula Tiihonen, Doctor of Administrative Sciences, Docent

Paula Tiihonen is doctor of Administrative Sciences. Tiihonen has worked in ministries, in the university and then last almost 15 years in the Finnish Parliament. Now she works as a counsellor in the Committee for the Future. Last 2 years Tiihonen worked in Washington DC as a free agent, writing, but is back in office again.
